Japan, Saga Prefecture (Hizen), Arita, Nangawara kiln (Kakiemon). Plate, porcelain Kakiemon ware. One of four identical plates. Flat bottom, short turned out sides, shorter scalloped rim that turns up. Underglaze blue ring with two birds (partridges?), one blue, the other yellow enamel with black detail. Two flowering trees and bamboo outside the ring in blue, green, and yellow enamel, with red flowers. Dark blue underglaze saw-tooth pattern band on underside. Red lacquer zig-zag band below, near foot. Blue underglaze bands on foot. Height 2.5 centimeters, rim diameter 20 centimeters.
