Seed used as food (Nutak). The specimen is a mixture of fruits of Rumex occidentalis S. Watson sp., western dock, Polygonaceae, and florets of Torreyochloa pallida (Torr.) G. L. Church var. pauciflora (J. Presl) J. I. Davis, weak mannagrass, Poaceae. Other items found and placed in gelatin capsules: 2 caryopses of Secale cereale L., rye, Poaceae; 2 spikelets of Phalaris arundinacea L., reed Canary grass, Poaceae; 2 achenes of Ranunculus sp., buttercup, Ranunculaceae; 1 seed of Nuphar polysepala Engelm., Rocky Mountain pond-lily, Nymphaeaceae; 1 seed of Rorippa sp., Brassicaceae

These seeds were sampled and sent to the Department of Food and Agriculture for identification by Kat Anderson and others in her lab. She is the ethnoecologist at the National Plant Data Center, Natural Resources Conservation Service at the University of California. The seeds were returned in December of 2009.
