Description:
8 x 10" Negative. Udaipur, Rajputana, India. View of Udaipur on the water, from the distance. Hoefler's original description: "Udaipur is known as "The City of Sunrise" an English corruption of the true meaning of the word "Udaipur" which actually means "place of the rising sun." This view of the Maharana's beautiful Palace, taken from an island in Pichola Lake, gives and impressive beginning to a picture tour of the medieval city, one of the most enchanting places in the world, where time stopped centuries ago and has since stood still; where vast hoards of gold, silver and priceless gems repose in palace vaults and where noble and beggar mingle in the Rai Angan or Royal Courtyard." (Print found made from this negative. Caption for the print is the same as the information above, with the exception of: "For Release December 17th, 1933.")
