This tori or arch is said to be the largest in Japan, and down this street come colorful religious processions from the Temple shown in the distance. Kyoto, because of its antiquity, numerous shrines and temples, is a focal point to which millions of people come annually, some in search of art, some to visit the scenic and historical spots, but mostly pilgrims eager to pray at ancient shrines.
