Twined mush basket. Series of stepped rectangular designs. Tag "Klamath R. Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot, indented. The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red- dyed woodwardia. At the starting knot there is three strand twining that extends for .75 inches, changing to plain twining for 1 inch, and then 1 weft row of three strand twining, followed by 3 weft rows of diagonal twining. Plain twining continues up to the rim. The main design is six elements with four tiers of rectangles each with a triangle on top, every other element is reversed. The basket's base has a beargrass overlay design radiating from the start. The rim has four weft rows of conifer root with no overlay. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The overlay is on the outside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwestern California.
