Japan, Saga Prefecture (Hizen), Arita, Nangawara Kiln (Kakiemon). Plate, porcelain, Kakiemon ware. One of four identical plates. Flat bottom, shallow, sides turn out, short scalloped rim that turns up. Underglaze blue ring with two birds within (partridges?), one blue, the other yellow enamel with black outline, and detail. Two flowering treees and bamboo outside the ring in blue, green and yellow enamel with red flowers. Dark blue underglaze saw-tooth band on underside; red zig-zag band below near foot; blue underglaze bands on foot. Height 2.5 centimeters, rim diameter 20 centimeters.
