4" x 5" Negative. Mr. and Mrs. James Doherty (right and center) and Mr. A.C. Manning (left) stand at the water's edge with two African children (from Mombasa). Marks the beginning of Hoefler's Colorado Africa Expedition. Hoefler's original description: "Good friends say "farewell." Mr. A.C. Manning at left, and Mr. and Mrs. James Doherty come to the water's edge at the Island of Mombasa, to bid the Colorado African Expedition and its members "farewell and good luck." Mr. Manning is a Revenue Agent in the service of the British Crown, and Mr. Doherty is the Government Coastal Agent.
