Description:
Plain-twined storage basket. Geometric design in brown and red diagonal on white ground. Materials are conifer root weft, with overlay of bear grass (squaw grass) and woodwardia died red using alder bark. Warp sticks are hazel. Twining from start- 3 strand for about 3 inches then plain twined then 3 rows of 3 strand then plain twined up to rim then 2 of rows of 3 strand twining, rim is trimmed. Design is 6 diagonal rows of split parallelograms, and 7 diagonal 3 line zigzags. From TB-53: "Large basket with tag that says lost number. [Found on shelf 2-25-2003, not listed on shelf list so it needs photography. On shelf with Klamath River and California Tribes. ]. Per Ralph Shanks: Northwestern California basket.
