Twined basket with two bands of openwork. Tag "Klamath River Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined openwork basket, made for sale. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The basket has conifer root wefts. The overlay weft material is beargrass and red-dyed Woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there is one weft row of plain twining, followed by 0.25 inch of three strand twining, followed by plain twining to the edge of the base where there are two weft rows of three strand twining followed by plain twining for a 0.5 inch. Going up the sides of the basket there is a 0.5 inch of parallel warp openwork, followed by 1.5 inches of close work plain twining followed by ⅓ inch of parallel warp openwork. At the rim there are two weft rows of plain twining, a single strand of beargrass and a reinforcing rod wrapped with beargrass alternating with red-dyed Woodwardia. The main design is four sets of paired stacked triangles separated by two vertical lines. The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is single sided, with the design on the exterior. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.
