Description:
Cast of Mercury seated (Greek: Hermes), a statue of the school (it may be) of hysippos of Sikyon flourished in the reign of Alexander. From a bronze discovered in the Villa dei Papiri (Villa of the Pisones), Herculaneum. Museo Nazionale, Naples. Herculaneum. The rock is a marble restoration. The eyes were missing, and are restored, as in nearly all the Herculanean statues. Our cast doesnot reproduce the characteristic black color of the Herculanean statues.
