Twined with overlay encircling bands in brown, yellow, and black. Buckskin lacing at top. Cover missing. Tag: "Klamath R. Tribes att." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket, in the shape of a tobacco container. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is beargrass, red dyed woodwardia and maiden hair fern. There is a leather strap woven in below the rim. Starting at the starting knot, there is 1.5 inches of three strand twining, followed by plain twining until the rim, which is trimmed. The design is three horizontal bands of maidenhair fern and woodwardia, alternating with beargrass. The overlay is single-sided on the exterior. The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwest California.
