colander, sieve undecorated pottery, tripod with two ring handles on neck. 19.7 cm. diameter, 26.6 cm height. Used to sieve "nixtamal" according to Marion Oettinger, this colander must be raised to permit drainage of the lime water in which the corn is softened before being ground and the holes must be precisely sized to keep the corn from being lost with the liquid.
