Coiled, globular. Slightly bottle neck. Tag "Mission type". Second Tag "1022 MLX GSX". Written on bottom "YMS-85P 85" Per Ralph Shanks: Globular coiled basket bowl with short neck. Bundle foundation. The background wefts are most likely willow. The design wefts are tan, orange and black dyed juncus. The design is a horizontal chain diamonds around the side and a flower/star on the base. The basket has an exterior workface, rightward work direction, and tightly bound under weft fag ends. The rim is plain wrapped; the coil ending is tapered. The basket is not typical of Southwest California including the choice of materials, the narrowness of the weft stitches, and the style of the weft fag ends. The basket shows influences of the Chemehuevi or other tribe to the east/north of the Cahuilla.
