Description:
Coiled, plate shape. Tag "5. Mission Type". Second tag "No.5. G.E0". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled low flaring basket bowl. The coil foundation is deergrass bundle. The background wefts are orange and tan juncus with black dyed juncus and sumac designs. The designs include a central 5 pointed star/flower and two horizontal bands of light zigzags with a dark background, reminiscent of/ a predecessor to the rattlesnake design. The last band ends at the rim forming a rim tick like design. The basket has an interior workface with clipped weft fag ends and a rightward work direction. The rim is plain wrapped and the coil ending is blunt. Due to the clipped weft fag ends and the use of materials the basket is attributed to the Cahuilla.
