Round. Bowl shape with flat bottom, plain twined and half twist overlay. Geometric design in black on wheat colored field. Willow, white grass and maidenhair fern. Tag "Klamath River". Per Ralph Shanks: Globular basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is possibly hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass and maidenhair fern. At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining followed by plain twining until the edge of the base where there are four weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues up to the rim. At the base there is a horizontal band of beargrass. The main design is a horizontal band with triangles above and below. At the rim is a band of maidenhair fern with beargrass and maidenhair diagonal lines coming off of it. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The overlay is on the outside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwestern California.
