8 x 10" Negative. Near Kapsabet. Image depicts a Nandi village, with a group of people seated in front of the huts in conversation. Hoefler's original description: "Typical Nandi village near Kapsabet. The Nandi do not live in large villages like many African tribes. One and sometimes two families build together and the groups are scattered in order to allow pasturage for the herds of cattle, sheep and goats. They live mostly on the Nandi plateau near Lake Victoria. Of all the East African tribes they are considered the most courageous and were one of the last to come under British rule. This scene shows old men, young warriors, young wives, and some children collected near village huts to gossip and visit."
