Sioux (Teton Dakota). Label "Raised with and a great friend of Sitting Bull." One of the emissaries chosen in 1890 by the Dakota leaders to visit Wovoka, the Ghost Dance prophet in Nevada. He was a medicine man and a close friend of Sitting Bull. After the termination of the hostilities between the Dakota and the U.S. Army, he made three world tours with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Frame stamped with seal of Peleger patent Feb. 2nd, 1886. Canvas loose, needs keys. One in a series from life in oil by J. H. Sharp, mainly Crow, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Sioux, and Rio Grande Pueblo portraits.
