Description:
Black and white negative of the performance on the King's Birthday on the Island of Ceylon. Hoefler's original description: "Island of Ceylon. On the King's Birthday, June 3rd, at Colombo. The citizens of Colombo and adjacent territory crowded into the city on this morning to make a true holiday of their Sovereign's natal day. The military display was most impressive and shows how the Bristish, with a handful of men properly placed, make a display of power which is sufficient evidence of their might to discourage uprisings. Note that practically all of the Sinhalese are wearing skirts and also that they have armored tanks in Colombo.
