Tray. Round, twined. Yellow with various bands of brown and black: sawtooth designs, some with inset yellow triangles. Main design comprises five diagonally stacked trapezoids bisected into rows of triangles by stepped yellow bands. Rim has six trapezoids bisected by yellow bands. Tag: "Klamath River Tribes", second tag "Klamath R. Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket tray, perhaps a flour tray. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is possibly hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass, red-dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern. At the starting knot there is two weft rows of plain twining, followed by seven weft rows of three strand twining, followed by 1.5 inches of plain twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining. After that plain twining continues until the rim, where there is one weft row of three strand twining, one weft row below the rim. The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily on the inside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwestern California, possibly Karuk based on the location of the Riddell's family home in Orleans. There are a few hairs woven into the basket near the rim. This basket's designs are very similar to 1-255553.
