Round, flat base, flaring sides, vertical and horizontal triangular design in dark and light brown on natural ground, coiled. Per Ralph Shanks: Large basket bowl. Deergrass bundle foundation. Base has a sumac weft. Sides have golden juncus background weft and the designs are natural orange and dyed black juncus. Plain wrapped rim with herringbone stitched coil ending. The weft fag ends are primarily clipped. Bound under weft fag ends occasionally appear in the background material. The design layout is bordered by one coil of black dyed juncus at the base and one coil immediately below the rim. The primary horizontal band of design is orange triangles outlined in black, two rows below the rim. Also inside the band are eight sets of five vertical inverted triangles with black outlines and orange interiors. Basket has a hole where it has been hung. The basket is attributed to the Gabrielino based several traits. First, the design layout with a primary band of design two rows from the rim. The fineness of design and layout. The preponderance of clipped fag ends. Finally, the use of black dyed juncus that is only partially dyed and is in several shades of dark brown and black.
