MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Backstrap loomed. Base cloth in single ply cotton, predominantly red. Two-ply cotton also found in base cloth in yellow, green, purple, blue and magenta. Brocading in two-ply cotton of same colors. Native name and meaning: Tzute de mujer- multipurpose cloth, woman's CONTEXT OF USE: Red base warp and weft is broken up by narrow orange warp stripes and multicolored stripes. Randa alternates in green, yellow, purple. Suppl. weft brocading appears in horizontal groups spread about four inches apart. A small hole in center of Tzute has been mended with purple yarn. Yarn is hilo rojo alleman, imported (Arriola de Geng). CONSERVATION:Good. Several small tears at ends and suppl. weft brocading is slightly worn away.
