Yoruba hare mask. large hare w/ tall ears; baby rabbit stands on back of head balancing on each ear. broad ears decorated inside w/ red/ blue/ yellow & w/ a fish. outer ears black w/ yellow/ red on natural alternating. triangle/ diamond bands along edges and blocks of yellow/ red diamonds on front of each ear. mask face yellow and black w/ black fringe beard. large bow-like device between ears on front side. ear edges matched. forehead decorated w/ a row of 12 raised devices also painted black. Conservation: Termite damage on both ears. Extensive on proper right and on small rabbit. Cracks in lower right edge. Egungun cult mask. [Bascom, West African Art, pg. 23]
