MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Backstrap loomed cotton 2,3,and 4 singles in red, blue and jaspe blue/white background. Suppl. weft in 3 two-ply sedalina, yellow, oragne, purple, green, white, pink. Native name and meaning: Tzute, cofradia. Ceremonial multipurpose cloth. CONTEXT OF USE: Brocading is not as heavy as the other three cited tzutes. However the chevron pattern remains consistent, as does the broad band of blue appearing in the center of the piece. Red is the predominant color in the base cloth, with alternates with thin stripes of both white and jaspe blue/white. The six-inch long tassels are created by cutting warps and twisting them together. See also 3-29734-36. CONSERVATION: Fair. One small hole in the center.
