Description:
35mm color slide transparency of stone money Rai ni ngochol ni ropgeg nu m'uu. Stone money brought to Yap by canoe and given the name ropgeg which means "don't forget me" Pre-contact. Bugulrow of Zol, Tomil. Long ago a man from Rumu', Fanif went away on a long journey. When he returned he brought with him 2 large yar which he gave to the chiefs of Rul and Tomil, 2 villages with which Rumu' had alliences. He had no yar for the chief of Gilfith, another ally and fearing that the chief of Gilfith would be angry with him, he set out for Palau where he guarried a rai for this chief. When the man returned to Yap he presented the rai to the chief with the word ropgeg implying that the chief had not been forgotten and that he not be forgotten by the chief. The chief of Gilfith then declared this rai be given the name ropgeg.
