Twined. Large globular basket with 6 vertical designs which are geometric designs with sawtooth edges. Upper and lower part of design are darker than center part. Broken zigzag within each design. Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket, in the shape of a storage basket. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The weft background material is conifer root. The weft overlay background is beargrass, with red dyed woodwardia and maidenhair fern overlay designs. From the starting knot there is one 1.5 inches of three strand twining, followed by 3.5 inches of plain twining, followed by three weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim, which is trimmed. The main design is six vertical zigzags with triangles on the exterior. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is single sided, on the exterior. The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket is from Northwest California.
