- MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Treadle loomed background in white cotton, 2 singles in warp and 3 singles weft. Suppl. weft brocading in cotton, 3,4, singles in yellow, dark and light red, green, pink, lavender, blue; 20 singles gray. Native name and meaning: Huipil diario- Everyday blouse. CONTEXT OF USE: Main body appears as balanced weave due to use of three singles in weft. Multicolored suppl. weft brocading covers top half of garment. Neckline is bordered with bias tape and a 2 inch band of sky blue velvet, machine stitched. Multicolored randa stops at bottom of upper half. 1 1/2 inch band of checker board patterning in gray cotton and then plain weave. Armholes are bordered with red velvet and dark blue bias tape. Tucks at breastline: front, back and both sides are flattened and machine stitched down the center (1 inch wide). Dating relates to use of more colors and frequent changes in designs than in older huipiles; randa is always in center. See also 3-29746 CONSERVATION: Good. Some stains, tears, repair in green cotton yarn (Wendy Berkelman).
