Comment:
Per Robeson Accession File: [probably this object] Netsuke in old ivory, of a very tall thin man, with an air of authority, and a long whip-like rod in hand. In the Shinto, exorcising was one of the rituals. The priest brandished a rod, before the patient and mutter the purification ceremony over him. This was done in secular as well as religious contexts.
