Description:
Black and white negative of a Buddhist Temple in Colombo. Hoefler's original description: "Colombo, Ceylon. Buddhist Temple in Colombo. The Temples of Ceylon are quite different in architecture from those in India proper. most of the people in Ceylon -- called Sinhalese -- are Buddhists, whereas those in India are of the Hindu faith, excepting of course the Mohammadeans. This odd Temple is closed to those not of the faith, but another Temple in Colombo allows visitors and contains many notable works of art in connection with the life of the Great Buddha, or Enlightened One."
