Description:
Black and white negative of section of the border on the walls of the Taj Mahal. Hoefler's Original description: "British India. A close-up view of one of the borders of multi-colored inlay in the entrance way to the Taj Mahal. These borders of flower-shaped inlays are composed of tiny veri-colored stones set into the white marble walls. The materials used are cornelian, onyx, jasper, coral from Ceylon, and chrysolite from the Nile. It is claimed by the inhabitants of Udaipur that the Emperor Shah Jahan gained his inspiration for its style of architecture from The Jag Mandir Island Palace in Pichola Lake, where he spent some time in exile while Prince Khurram. As to who really designed the Taj there is a great conflict of opinions, but the Emperor himself contributed many ideas there can be no doubt." (Prints Supplied To: Hills Brothers.)
