Description:
Japan, Saga Prefecture (Hizen), Arita, Okawachi kiln (Nabeshima ware) (also known as Okoshi kiln). Plate, porcelain with overglaze enamel decoration. Nabeshima ware. Wide shallow bowl shape, on tall foot ring. Four clusters of pomegranates with blue underglaze leaves and branches, and blue-green enamel leaves. Darker blue outline. Pomegranates are in light and dark red enamel with touches of yellow. Pure white ground. Three Chinese coin designs with fillers on underside. Nabeshima 'comb' pattern band around foot. One of a set of four identical plates. Height 4.5 centimeters, rim diameter 21.6 centimeters.
