Sari border; beaded in tones of grey, white, yellow and green on black velvet ribbon; floral motifs; attached to silk saris by Parsi women. the longer piece goes around the bottom hem, the shorter edges only those parts brought over the chest and shoulders and/or head. Beaded borders were about the only kind traditionally permitted menstruating women, since their colors did not run after the mandatory post-menstrual washing of all clothing.
