Object Name: Noodle bowl Materials: Glazed Porcelain Diameter at rim: 14 cm Date: 1890 or early Republican era copy Country: China Description: The exterior features a hand-painted version of “antiquities” (博古bogu), a theme that was popular in the late Qing. The reverse has a long inscription in shaky calligraphy, dated the summer of the gengyin 庚寅year (presumably 1890), signed “Painted from life by Lu Heng of Tingxuan Hall” (possible literal translation could be “the hall chosen by the court”) (廷選軒呂衡 Tingxuan xuan Lü heng) followed by a red oval mark. Worn gilding on rim. Inscription: On foot, blue circular kiln mark, hand written: “Made at Hall of Cautious Virtue” (慎德堂製 Shendetang zhi).
