Garment, sumba cloth, Ikat; red, white, and blue figures: stag and geometric at each end, lions, sea-creatures, zoomorphic, and geometric in center field on red and dark-brown ground; red, yellow, black, and blue banded ceremonial border; self-fringe; 10 years old [as of 1984]. Largely ceremonial, can be worn on shoulder or waist; worn by men only. Also given to men as “Feminine gift” by bride’s father to seal wedding contract as well as often used as burial cloth. Length 260 cm. Width 128 cm. fringe included.
