Backstrap-loomed, weft-predominant plain weave, tapestry woven, two-faced supp. weft brocading, three pieces joined front, back, sides with randa, side panels tucked with machine stitching, 4 1/2" bottom plain white weave added to body with hand stitching, some segments joined with machine stitching, one side, ends loom-finished, other end cut, hand hemmed, head hole cut out and bound with commercial cloth.

MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Cotton: white background, red, yellow, green geometric weft. Silk floss; purple, lavendar, light green and yellow in weft. CONTEXT OF USE: Ceremonial or cofradía huipil, one of 27 huipiles from Sacapulas. Iconography: Geometric woven body; embroidery in tassel/fan motif. Half medallions at neckline. When silk was no longer available, weavers used whatever they could buy. Bianchi shop in Guatemala where old cloth and yarn for sale (Arriola de Geng). See also 23-29676 CONSERVATION: Good.
