Round, convex with incurving sides, flat bottom. Plain twined with half - twist overlay. Geometric design in black and red - brown on glossy yellowish white field. Tag: "Klamath River". Per Ralph Shanks: Globular basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is uncertain, possibly hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass, red-dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern. At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining followed by 1 inch of plain twining followed by 1 weft row of three strand twining. Plain twining continues up to the rim where the uppermost weft row is three strand twining. At the base there is a band of beargrass overlay followed by a ring of woodwardia with maidenhair fern diagonals coming off of that. The main design consists of rectangles with triangles, alternating above and below a center line. At the rim is another band of woodwardia and maiden hair. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The overlay is on the outside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwestern California.
