Description: "13 7/8 in. x 1 3/4 in." "Round, hardwood." "1. "Hohoa (hoahoa)" grooves in 4 longitudinal sections vary from 7 to 9, and 2 sections of 19. (A "section" is a rounded off, flatish surface. This "hohoa" is cracked in one section and the "nao" are worn making a tally difficult; the "nao" are ridges formed by grooves.) First stage beater for pounding fiber (bast) into sheets of desired dimensions. Beaters made by male specialists for women. (See p. 170)" Remarks: "1.
