Description:
4" x 5" Negative. Flamigoes on Lake Hannington. Hoefler's original description: "Lake Hannington. The word "flamingo" is derived from the word "flame" and was given to this bird on account of its brilliant plumage. The long slender legs and webbed feet are scarlet and purple; the odd-shaped beaks are of the same color, and excepting for the crimson under the wings and the black-tipped pinion quills, the bird shades from a pale pink to a rosy hue. The commotion from these millions of birds produces a constant sound, a ceaseless hissing and kronking.
