Japan, Ishikawa Prefecture (Kaga), Kutani, late 19th century - early 20th century Bowl, porcelain. Red Kutani ware. Large hemi-sphere shape. Akaji-kinga style gold and red on white ground. Coral red ground with large white reserve panels. Largest depicts a congregation of fifteen men grouped around one reading a scroll, in red / gold detail. Circular panel with elaborated landscape. Square panel with floral motif and bird. White band below rim with linear red circle design. Red ground is decorated with gold scroll-work. Two circular panels on outerside of teacher and pupil. Two diamond panels with floral motifs. Seven wide and narrow bands to foot. Mark on foot "Kutani". Interior surface very scratched; faces indistinct. Height 9.5 centimeters, Rim Diameter 23.5 centimeters.
