Eel or fish trap. Tag "Yurok" scratched out. Second tag "Klamath River Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined openwork basket trap model, either for eel or fish, with handle. Bundled starting knot. The warp material is hazel. The weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is a beargrass, red-dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern. The handle is made of braided beargrass and red-dyed woodwardia. The handle is attached to the base of the basket with a beargrass and maidenhair fern wrapped rod. There are four bands of close work twining, all plain twined. The rim is twisted over to the interior and trimmed. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist, with a rightward work direction. The design overlay is single sided on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.
