Twined bowl-shaped basket with pedestal base; part of openwork rim missing. Tag: "Klamath River Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined tourist trade basket bowl with pedestal. The warps are hazel. The weft is conifer root. The weft overlay background is beargrass, with designs in red dyed Woodwardia and maidenhair fern. Starting at the crossed warp starting knot at the base of the bowl there is ⅓ inch of three strand twining, followed by 2 inches of plain twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining, after which plain twining continues to the rim, where there is 0.25 inches of openwork, with straight warps, with a rim finish of one row of plain twining. The rim is trimmed. The pedestal has a rim that is wrapped in beargrass. The design includes diagonal slashes of red dyed Woodwardia. The basket as an up to the right slant of weft twist, an exterior workface, and a rightward work direction. The main overlay is on the exterior but the interior has overlay as well. The basket is from Northwestern California.
