- Description:
- The mug is decorated with a decal of an opened book resting on pine branches and radiating light, topped by the slogan: Serve the people (为人民服務 wei renmin fuwu) in imitation of Mao’s calligraphic script. The lid is almost flat with a round knob, a design that is typical of the mugs that Liling made for the CCP leaders and the Great Hall of the People; it bears an inscription. Inscription: Lid: “Smash the [four] olds; establish the [four] news” (破旧立新 pojiu lixin). For history of slogan see Helen Wang, Chairman Mao Badges, p. 143.
