8 x 10" Negative. Kapsabet, Nandi Reserve. Image depicts two Nandi warriors, shining their equipment with lubricating oil. Hoefler's original description: "Kapsabet, Nandi Reserve. Photograph show two Nandi warriors, who afterwards speared the lions for Paul L. Hoefler in Tanganyika (Tanzania). The Nandi are a most courageous tribe and the only warriors whose traditions still hold them steadfast in the face of a charging lion. These men were using some of the Expedition’s lubricating oil to shine up their equipment preparatory to departure for Camp Simba."
