Large old hemispherical coiled basket. Tag "Yuki". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled basket bowl. The basket has food residue and burns; it was probably used for both parching and cooking, with evidence of abrasion from cooking stones. The basket has a tight spiral start. The coil foundation is splints. The background wefts are peeled redbud, and the weft designs are in unpeeled redbud. The design is four horizontal bands, which have occasional dips that mirror the bands above and below. The rim is plain wrapped in unpeeled redbud. The coil ending is backstitched for two inches, and has a blunt end. The weft fag ends are sometimes clipped, sometimes tucked. The weft moving ends are primarily concealed. The workface has a few split stitches; the back face has about 50% split stitches. The basket has an exterior workface, with a rightward work direction, and a down to the right slant of weft twist.
