Unfinished squat fancy basket, triangular designs. Tag "Kl. R. Tr. Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Unfinished twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass and maidenhair fern. At the starting knot there is three strand twining that extends for 1 inch, changing to plain twining for 1/4 inch, followed 1 weft row of three strand twining. Plain twining continues up to where the weaving ends. Starting at the base there is conifer root with no overlay, followed by alternating beargrass and conifer root. At the edge of the base is a horizontal band of maidenhair fern with beargrass stripes. The main design is four elements comprised of triangles arranged diagonally, with connecting lines. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The overlay is on the outside. The basket is from Northwestern California.
