The warp material is probably willow. The basket has conifer root wefts. The overlay weft material is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there are 2 inches of three strand twining interspersed with 2 weft rows of plain twining, followed by 1/8th inch of parallel warp openwork, followed by alternating bands of plain twining and parallel warp openwork. Starting .5 inch from the rim, there is a single weft row of three strand twining, followed by 2 weft rows of plain twining, followed by another weft row of three strand twining, followed by 2 weft rows of plain twining. The rim is trimmed. The main design is a horizontal bands of red-dyed woodwardia outlined in either beargrass or maidenhair fern triangles. The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is single sided, with the design on the exterior. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.
