A)Screen, 1 center panel and b, c 2 smaller side panels, of children and women in garden. Theme of the Hundred Infants. Made of wood, peitra dura, semi precious stones, ivory and brass circa 1900. The Theme of the Hundred Infants expresses "the hope for the blessing of numerous offspring" (especially of boys) "as well as an allusion to the golden age of Yao and Shun, when the people of China lived in such prosperity that scholars, farmers and merchants alike felt as light-hearted as little children" (see C.A.S Williams Outlines of Chinese Symbolism and Art Motives).
