Burden basket, open work twine. Tag "Klamath R. Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined open-work burden basket. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The weft material is possibly hazel or willow. There are three handles made out of old cloth. Starting at the starting knot, there is close-spaced plain twining, often over two warps during the first few inches, followed by open-work plain twining with parallel warps. Plain twining continues to the rim, where the warps are braided and bound down on the interior. The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwest California. There is a hair woven into the side of the basket.
