TIGER HUNTING IN INDIA, BHOPAL State, Central India. It is only during the dry season in Central India that it is possible to photograph the striped cat of the jungle; for then lack of water forces him into restricted areas, usually stream beds, where there are pools of water and cool, shady spots in which to sleep. The tigress in this photograph can be blamed for her own death, for while the party was proceeding along the edge of a nullah, or ravine, she suddenly charged, making it necessary to kill her.
