Remarks by Charles Brown: original canoe was 15-18 feet long. Haidas were the only people with cedars big enough to make the large dugouts. All large canoes were made on Masset and traded to the other Northwest Coast tribes who then put their distinctive tribal designs on the canoes (scw).
