Hearst Museum object titled Rice bowl, accession number 9-23557, described as Small glazed porcelain rice bowl. Likely a post 1980 revival of the Establishing the Nation kiln name. The Jianguo (Establishing Nation) kiln had made porcelain dinner sets for the new PRC government in the early 1950s. On the front two men (perhaps done with rubber stamps and hand colored) sit on hand-painted grass next to two clumps of bamboo and a rock all of which was hand-painted and colored with enamels; the back is inscribed. Gilded rim and gold bowstring around foot. Inscription: On back the meaning of brush written inscription with one simplified character is unclear (叶象三多 ye xiang san duo). Round red kiln mark on foot: “Establishing the Nation Ceramic Factory product 9 Jiangxi” (建國瓷廠 江西出品9 Jianguo cichang, Jiangxi chupin 9). Seal legend has full-form characters (so presumably pre-1956 introduction of simplified characters), but cutting of characters is not as precise as 1950s.
